Alexander Milne was born on 13th March 1880 in Newbigging, Ceres, Fifeshire, Scotland, son of Alexander and Janet MILNE (née WILSON)

1881 census...Aged 1, he was at South Newbigging Farm, Ceres with his father Alexander MILNE [49] farmer born Monifieth, Forfar; mother Janet [41] born Largs, Forfar; sister Catherine H [8] and brothers George [5] and James [3] all born in Ceres.

1891 census...Aged 11, he was a scholar, in Ceres, with his parents (father now retired farmer); brothers George and James (scholars) and sister Sarah [[9] and grandmother Catherine WILSON [75].

1901 census...Aged 21, working on father's farm he was at Dura Mains Farm, Kemback, Fife, with his parents; sisters Catherine and Sarah and brother George.

1911 census...Aged 31 he was still at Dura Main (father deceased) with his mother, sisters Catherine and Sarah and brother George.

"Our Village and the Great War" has it that he was working in Tuddenham for five years as a trout farmer at the Mill, boarding with Daniel and Sarah BARKHAM. Here he met Norah COLLINS who was boarding with retired policeman Isaac BARWICK, before moving to Lowestoft in 1914. He married Nora Mary 24-4-1889] COLLINS (Bury St Edmunds Q2-1915 4A2407).

in 1920 Nora married Edmund E BLAND, living at 39, Exchange St., Norwich.



He enlisted in Bedford when resident in Lowestoft
Arriving in Gallipoli on 16th August, after only ten days, and only two months after his marriage he died of his wounds. With no service record available and the nature of the Royal Engineers, it is impossible to work out exactly where or when he was wounded. His unit were part of the 54th (East Anglian) Infantry Division which actually landed at Suvla Bay on 10th August 1915.
